This is the right place for someone who loves nature and adventure. It’s perfect for a hiding spot just a little out of the center from the town of Ella. Never seen anything so pure and beautiful. Why? because it’s surrounded with nature, fresh air, cold foggy weather, crickets chirping all night, birds singing beautifully in the morning  and sometimes you will have unexpected guests, monkeys and squirrels and overlooking the Ella mountains. After travelling down from the bustling noise of Colombo this place was a heaven. Good thing I randomly decided to visit this place.

Location : Ella Bamboo Cabana is located in Ella, 2.3 km from Demodara Nine Arch Bridge, Sumanaramaya temple road Madapathana ,kitalella, 90090 Ella, Sri Lanka

Ella: Its one of the most beautiful places/areas of the upcountry. Surrounded by hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations. The town has a cooler climate than surrounding lowlands, due to its elevation. Is a small town in the Badulla District of Uva Province, Sri Lanka.

Transportation: Travelling by road,  you can take bus, taxi or a shuttle service. But the best route to take from Colombo to Ella is the scenic route, as you can see the amazing scenery of tea hills. The railway system in Sri Lanka is excellent. Buy tickets at the Colombo Fort Train Station, This train is run by the government, options are either 1st class with air conditioned carriages, or 2nd class to 3rd class train-cars without a/c, and its very cheap.  They have 1st class sleeper carriages if you want to travel overnight, but I recommend travelling during the day so you can fully enjoy the majestic views.

There is also a privately run company, ExpoRail Car that you can book online, with food, bottled water, tea or coffee. But you have to book ExpoRail Reservation early because it’s always fully booked.

Time Travel: 9 hours by train, 7 hours by car.

But Ella Bamboo Cabana ( Bed and Breakfast ) offer car hire.

Ella Bamboo Cabana

Ella Bamboo Cabana is close to the train rails.

But don’t worry, trains don’t pass by all the time.

Let’s check what’s inside:

Balcony:  Sitting in this balcony at this bamboo lodge and drinking the best Sri Lankan tea while listening to the sound of the rainforest. Feel the cold breeze, and don’t forget to wake up early to see the sunrise, which I highly recommend.

Room: The rooms are tastefully furnished with every comfort you need and spotlessly clean. The beds are very comfortable and you feel the romance of the tropics enhanced by a bed swathed in billowy white mosquito netting.

A flat-screen TV with satellite channels, as well as a computer are available. Ella Bamboo Cabana features free WiFi. I like their design in every room, everything is simple but so lovely.

Ella Bamboo Cabana has 2 rooms, You can have breakfast in your room as you welcome a new day, 24 hour front desk and room service.  Please be informed that pets are not allowed, so you will have to leave Sparky or Fluffy at home.

Activities: Hiking/trekking  is the main activities here in Ella.

Closest landmarks

 Closest metro and train stations
  • Ella Railway Station Train station 0.9 km
  • Demodara Railway Station Train station 4.4 km
  • Bandarawela Railway Station Train station 7.5 km

If you want to live close to nature, this is surely for you…close enough to be involved in the hustle and bustle of the busiest restaurants or bars, and the sights and sounds of the market. All while being surrounded by Sri Lanka’s pristine hills and forests.

It’s always best if you bring someone while travelling, But an adventure alone is also good for the soul and spiritually enlightening.

It’s important to remember that if you plan to maximize all the outdoor and trekking activities, that toddlers and young children cannot be accommodated at this place. There is no capacity for extra beds in the room.

The people were super friendly and warmhearted, There is simply a feeling of hospitality and openness that you feel, similar to that of visiting your relatives in the province.  I just wish we could stay longer.
