Aside from enjoying the view and bathing in the waters of beautiful beaches. Do you like walking barefoot and feeling the sand on your toes?

While I’m sitting on the beach watching the waves, I slowly walked on the sand, I noticed the white powdery sand, and started to think where does white sand come from?

Not all amazing beaches are equal for your feet, some are more barefoot friendly beaches.

Like in the Philippines, lots of beautiful white sand beaches to explore.

Boracay Island in Aklan is one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines

Kalanggaman Island in Leyte, offers one of the best white sandbars in the Philippines!

What if you find out the white sand you are walking on is  Fish poop? You won’t go to the beach anymore? hahaha

You want to know what a white sandy beach is made of?..

Sand is basically the material you get when you get a breakdown in rocks, when the rocks weather and decompose over hundreds of thousands and millions of years. Not every rocky mineral is equally built to last. Some of the minerals are very unstable and decompose faster. But much of the sand is actually made up of Fish Poop! hahaha, Yes it is!! from fish poop!.

Parrot Fish are abundant around the tropical reef, mostly you will see parrot fishes in tropical countries, these species range in size from 1 to 4 feet (30 to 120 centimeters) in length.

In many other parts of the world Parrot Fish is a delicacy, In Polynesia it was once considered royal food only eaten by the king.

They are covered in many different colors, and they scrape and clean inshore coral reefs.

Parrot Fish  live by scrapping off dead corals which end up in their digestive tract, when digestedthe coral is turned into a “Fine Powder” that the Parrot Fish excretes.

Large Parrot Fish can burn out 840 pounds of eroded coral “White Sand” per year.

A single giant ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T-gnZevlaY ) Hump head Parrot fish can provide 11,000 pounds of sand per year, It means, Parrot fish literally eat the coral reef skeleton. It bites off tiny pieces of hard coral as it forages for algae.

Their waste accounts for a whopping 85% of all the sand produced on the reef.

Now you know why Boracay in the Philippines has such beautiful white sand.

Ever wondered why walking barefoot in the white sand beaches feels so amazing? hehe
